Holden's action toward Stradlater and his date with Jane made me think that Holden really likes Jane, and possibly have some strong feelings about Jane. When Holden heard Stradlater was going on a date with Jane, he remembers that she used to keep her kings in the back row all the time when they played checkers. Also during Stradlater date with Jane, Holden worries that Stradlater might "gave her the time", which leads to Stradlater knocking Holden out. All this shows is that he has strong feelings for Jane, because he doesn't want anyone like Stradlater taking advantage of her. Holden cares about Jane, and we can say that he loves her also.
